Answering the ‘Daily writing prompt’
Where can you reduce clutter in your life?
I’m always working on decluttering, bit by bit. It’s not a new process for me but more of a continuous journey. Some things are done, a lot still need to be done, and even more need to be undone—not just outside of me, but inside as well.
I want to start with my mind. Along with being overwhelmed by sensual thoughts, I tend to overthink—those repetitive thoughts, unnecessary worries, and distractions that take up too much space and leave me mentally exhausted. Because of this, I often revisit the task of clearing out mental clutter. Creating mental clarity helps me nurture a sense of peace and make room for more meaningful and positive thoughts.
Emotional clutter is another area I’m constantly working on. Holding onto the past, unresolved feelings, or self-criticism can really add up and weigh me down. I’m letting go of what doesn’t serve me emotionally and focusing on nurturing a healthier, more balanced inner life. I’m already making small but meaningful changes, bit by bit.
Then, there’s digital clutter. I’ve been keeping my digital space organized, but it’s always good to check in and ensure everything stays tidy and manageable. I keep notifications—rather, I prefer to turn them off on devices, say, to a minimum, and I use limited digital tools to avoid getting drawn into anything that might become an addiction or distraction.
Next up is my wardrobe. I declutter it from time to time, letting go of clothes that no longer fit or serve me—especially the ones I keep thinking I’ll wear once I lose a few pounds or saying not Today / some other day. These clothes have been sitting there for ages, untouched. No matter how many clothes I have or buy, I always end up grabbing jeans and a T-shirt unless it’s a formal day. Some clothes I haven’t worn more than once—not because I don’t like repeating outfits, but because I just don’t feel as comfortable in them as I do in my jeans and T. Office wear is the exception. I want to make room for clothes that actually fit, make me feel good, and that I can wear more often. Plus, I’m hoping to cut down on buying new clothes and move toward a more sustainable lifestyle—though I’m not sure how easy that’ll be! But I’m on it.
Finally, there’s my house. I’ll declutter now and then. I’ve always had a thing for organizing and cleaning, but there’s always more to do. Maybe it’s a bit of OCD, or maybe I just like things neat and tidy—well, except for my emotions, which are always a bit of a mess. I want to get rid of stuff that doesn’t add any value. I’d love to have more indoor plants and books in every corner, and just more open space overall.
Regular decluttering (something I want to stay committed to) helps me keep things simple and organized, even if I’m not always consistent. This effort creates a space that feels calm, peaceful, and inspiring for thoughtful, creative living—a serene environment that supports clarity.
I want both my mind and physical space to be enriched with calmness, plants, and stories, free from clutter, where I can enjoy my own company every day.
